Enjoy the colours

Enjoy the colours

No, I am not talking about bringing our your crayons, coloured pencils or markers. I am referring to getting yourself outside and enjoy the fall colours. The leaves are starting to turn into those lovely shades of yellow, orange and red. Not only will you enjoy the colours but you will get a nice break from the daily grind that has been causing you so much stress. Go take a nice brisk walk in nature along some local nature trail to enjoy not only the colours but the trees, the animals and nature itself. Take in that fresh air and clean out those polluted lungs. Breath in and out nice and easy to get the most out of your nature walk. If you honestly don’t like walking alone, call up a friend and invite them along for the short or long hike in nature. Grab a sweater or jacket and maybe even your camera to take some timeless pictures and go enjoy the colours not only today but for years to come!

Action Step: Go outside and enjoy the colours of nature at least twice this week.

Show your love

Show your love

Sounds so easy to do, but yet how many of us on a regular basis show our loved ones just how much we love them. I know I am have been guilty of this way too many times and I also know I am not alone in this. Do you regularly tell your loved ones that you love them? Do you regularly show them by actually spending time listening to them and not thinking of other things while they talk to you? Do you offer to help them out before they have to ask for help? If you are squirming in your seat right now, you already know what must be done. It is time for a positive change in showing your love to those that not only want it but need it, too. Through thick and thin these are the people that are in your life and will continue to be, they deserve to be given more love on an ongoing basis. Take some time to start planning how you will show your loved ones just how much they mean to you. Maybe even start with a hug, letter and saying “I love you”.

Action Step: Write at least three letters this week to loved ones that you haven’t appreciated as much as you should have.

Get off your asset

Get off your asset

Hey you, the one reading this blog. Did you know you get more done when you are not sitting down? Did you know that once you sit down on your couch or lazy boy it makes it very difficult to get yourself moving again? Have you ever just vegged for no reason? Have you ever just sat and watched mindless TV for hours and at the end of it you said to yourself “Well, there’s a few wasted hours of my life that I won’t ever get back”. So, get yourself up, go for a walk, walk around the house and pick a few things up that need to be moved or tossed out, pick up the laundry that has been waiting for you to move it, etc, etc. Commit to standing up a little more and getting things done. You already know there is a number of things on your to-do list and your mental to-do list which has probably been building up for years. Stop hoping things will magically get done from these lists and take some actions to finally get them done!

Action Step: Work on one of the items on your to-do list and get it done!

Laugh like no one is watching

Laugh like no one is watching

Sounds silly doesn’t it? Laugh like no one is watching. When was the last time you laughed non stop for minutes for no reason at all? Have you ever had the giggles and nothing could get you to stop but let me ask you “How did you feel?” Yes, you felt a little silly or even foolish, but after that uncontrollable laughter you actually felt good. Even if it was a bad day that little break from reality put a smile on your face and if someone was around you, I bet they started to laugh as well. Why wait until you break out of the giggles to feel that good again? Laughter is one of the best medicines, after all. Some of the best speakers, performers or movies we have ever seen have made us laugh. Instead of depending on outside sources to make us laugh, why not just make a decision and laugh right now? That’s right, you can do that, can’t you? Take 60 seconds and laugh like no one is watching and if someone is, oh well, let them be entertained by you.

Action Step: Laugh for the next minute and let yourself enjoy it.

Your greatest enemy

Your greatest enemy

Batman has the Joker, Superman has Lex Luthor, Captain America has the Red Skull and you have ____? Many are thinking their boss, a negative co-worker, an ex friend or even an ex lover but the truth be told, you have been your worst enemy many times. How long would you put up with anyone talking to you so negatively as you talk to your self for even half the time that you put yourself down? How many times have you second guessed yourself? Do you regularly pat yourself on the back for a job well done or do you degrade yourself for not doing this or that? If you are like most of us, you are still putting yourself down or questioning things you did five, ten or even decades ago. Is this helping you? Of course not! It is time for you to start being your best friend and not the enemy. Start looking for the good in what you do and pat yourself on the back more often. You deserve to love yourself and appreciate yourself a whole lot more.

Action Step: Every day this week repeat this in the mirror ten times “I am proud of you and love you”

Wisdom is gained in self-reflection time

Wisdom is gained in self-reflection time

No matter who we are, we all have good times, bad times and learning times. The wisest among us spend many hours learning from their experiences after they happen — reflecting on what had happened and what they have learned. This is no special skill only privileged to the most successful people that have ever lived, as we all can use this easy to use skill. Everyone can take a few minutes to dwell upon what truly happened, what they have learned, could have learned, were meant to learn and how to use the information that presented itself. The reason so many people keep having an experience that they prefer to not have over and over again, is because they have chosen not to learn from it. Personal growth comes from experiences and learning from each and every opportunity that happens to grow themselves. Don’t follow the masses and close your mind to personal growth, open it and become more each and every day.

Action Step: Spend 15 minutes reflecting on how a past obstacle has helped you.

When good isn’t good enough

When good isn’t good enough

This isn’t about giving something your all and it not being enough. This is about many of the choices we make each and every day. When we choose from the following (bad, not so good, average or good) there is always a better decision and that is GREAT. A good decision is reading a fantastic self-improvement book, but a great decision is meeting someone in person who is successful in an area where you want to grow or even going to a seminar in person. When we habitually just choose good instead of great we subliminally are making a decision that this or that isn’t as important as we want it to be. Yes, I understand this is hard to swallow and accept, but I don’t like giving you fluffy material, I want to inspire you to ACT now, not someday, which never happens. From this day forward get into the habit of asking “Is this decision good or great?” When you continue to do great things, life begins to change.

Action Step: Every single decision that you have this week ask yourself, “Is this good or great?”

Fulfillment can be apart of your life

Fulfillment can be apart of your life

Of the list of items that people complain about, this is one thing that many wish they had more of. You can find fulfillment and more happiness, but not if you continue to do the same things over and over again and make no modifications. If you are presently unhappy, it will never change just because you are unhappy. It will only change when you change. Helping others and personal growth are two of the biggest parts of having a fulfilling life. When you choose to grow, you choose to become a better service to others, not just yourself. When you choose to use your talents to help those who can benefit from them, not only are they helped but you get them amazing feeling of fulfillment. Those that fought so hard to give us our freedoms didn’t make so many sacrifices for the next generations to become so self absorbed that they forget about others. Take a few minutes to think of how you can be of greater service to those who can use your talents.

Action Step: Spend an hour this week using your talents to help others.

Your community matters

Your community matters

If everyone in your community that thought “I don’t have time to help out with community projects” only spent one or two hours a month doing something for the community, live in your area would in fact be different. A cleaner area, more trees added, more natural foods, less pollution, a reduction in crime and more pride in your area, just to name a few. It only takes one person to start something, but it takes many to continue it. Every volunteer organization or cause out there struggles to keep going because not enough people are jumping in and helping out. It is not someone else’s job to help out, it is everyone’s job to do their part in keeping their community a vital place to be and continue so many generations can enjoy it. It is time for you to stop talking about it or stop believing it is someone else’s responsibility and take one step towards making your community a better place not only for you but all to enjoy it.

Action Step: Pick a cause in your community, join it and volunteer at least two hours this month.

Celebrities as our role models

Celebrities as our role models

If you are like many people you just rolled your eyes at that, but yet, most still spend way too much time reading and watching about some famous people that do not have their lives together (how very sad indeed). The media plays on the negativity of the masses and gives them more negativity to stay in the horrible state of mind. Am I saying that all celebrities are bad role models, of course not. There are a number of them that give their time, money and attention to great charities, family, friends and those in need. If the media actually cared about us, instead of searching for garbage to serve us they would serve us with inspiring stories. If you want to become a great role model, it won’t be in talking about or following the circus acts that the media portrays. Stand to be different and do good for your fellow man and woman. If you have a choice between doing nothing or helping someone, by all means help them.

Action Step: Stop following the circus acts of the media and take one step towards being a better role model.
